My next step was to analyze the data. Using the 4.0 scale I created, I was able to see the variance between each pre and post competency self-assessment. I noted the three competencies I improved on the most which were Competency #9 (Principles of management to physical plant/support systems), Competency #8 (Budgeting/Finance/Technology Application), and Competency #6 (Sustain an instructional program and district culture). Two of the these three competencies fell under Domain 3 (Administrative Leadership). The third competency listed within Domain 3 was tied for 4th for the most improved. This information was valuable to me because the three competencies within Domain 3 were I needed to improve on the most according to my pre-assessment.
According to my post-assessment, the three competencies I scored the best on which reflected my strengths were Competency #1 (Acting with integrity, fairness, and ethical manner), Competency #2 (Shaping district culture), Competency #3 (Communicate/collaborate with families and community), and Competency #7 (Implement staff evaluation and development system). Three of these four competencies were in Domain 1 (Leadership of the Educational Community). Therefore, according to my analysis, this Domain was were my confidence was strongest.
Lastly, it was time to see what areas I still needed to improve on as I create the foundation and my philosophy in becoming a superintendent. Competency #4 (Influencing political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context including working with the school board to achieve educational vision), Competency #8 (Budgeting/Finance/Technology Application), and Competency # 5 (facilitate and implement strategic plans). Although I did grow in each of these areas, I feel that hands-on experience will provide me with more knowledge. On a positive note, each one of these three areas that I need to improve on were located within 3 different Domains where I also had many strengths.
